2011 Finals
High Handicap KO Final
The high handicap KO Final was played on the morning of Monday 3rd October in lovely
weather between Carol Priestly and Simon Rudd-Clarke. This was a 14 point game with
Carol (22 handicap having 11 bisques and Simon (20 handicap) having 10 bisques. It
was, therefore, quite a tense rush to the finishing post with Carol eventually emerging
the winner +5 (14-9). Congratulations to her and commiserations to Simon.

Low Handicap KO Final
The low handicap KO Final was played on the morning of Tuesday 4th October in bright, breezy and cool conditions between Peter Toghill (8 handicap) and Robin Hayes (11 handicap) with Robin therefore having 3 bisques over Peter. It turned out to be a thrilling match watched by quite a large crowd of members.
Peter got off to a flying start running a series of 7 hoops with his first opportunity and was showing an excellent touch on a holding green. Robin soon settled down however and went ahead with judicious use of a couple of bisques, by getting his first ball round to penult and later in the game going ahead by 7 or 8 hoops. When both players had one clip on the peg, Peter saw his opportunity and managed to peg out Robin's ball. By this time however, Robin only had one hoop to run which he managed to do. Finally, a longish missed roquet by Peter gave Robin the opportunity he needed to peg out his second ball concluding the match at +8.
Tea, coffee and superb sandwich cake was provided greenside by our Social Secretary, Liz, and all agreed it was a most enjoyable final to watch. As a result of this win Robin's handicap in only his second season, comes down to 10!
A49 Cup
On sloping and almost grassless "greens" at Monkmoor Recreation Ground our A49 team narrowly lost 3 matches to 4 on Thursday 15th September. The weather was lovely, cool but sunny and the hospitality excellent. In the morning one singles was won and one lost and we also went down in the pairs. The 4 singles in the afternoon were shared two all. Congratulations to Julian on winning both his singles matches. Our team members who do not also play at Shrewsbury struggled to come to terms with the treacherous lawns. Maybe we can entertain Shrewsbury on our own lawns next year and perhaps gain the ascendancy !
